Democrats have a history of fighting the wealthy – the ones they dub the evil 1%. This was particularly true when the tax cuts, which provided for much needed relief for American families, were passed last year.

Republican tax cuts provided for a 2.2 percent rise in income for the average American household, amounting to around $1.610 additional money per family in 2018, according to the non-partisan think tank Tax Policy Center.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said it “robs the future” and “rewards the rich” at the expense of working middle-class families.

Former President Barack Obama posted in social media the overhaul “hands enormous tax cuts to the rich” and cuts healthcare for American families.

“This Congress doesn’t work for working families,” according to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) “It works for corporate lobbyists & campaign donors in backroom deals & 1:30 a.m. votes.”

“This is a victory for corporations and the top 1% of Americans, not teachers, not seniors, and certainly not the middle class,” said Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA)

The problem with the liberal cry is they are part of the 1 percent of most wealthy Americans. Consider this:

  • According to the publication Roll Call, 12 Congressional members hold more than half of the Congress’ collective net worth. Five are from the Democratic Party
  • Eight of the top 20 wealthiest Congressional members are from the Democratic Party.
  • Seven women are among the top 50 wealthiest members in Congress. Six are from the Democratic Party.

Liberals touting “working people” haven’t been in that economic class for a long time. Many are millionaires including:

  • Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the wealthiest women in Congress, with a net worth of $58.5 million.
  • Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) with a net worth of $26.9 million.
  • Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) with a net worth of $16 puts her in the 30th spot of wealthiest Congressional members.
  • Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) with an $11 million net worth.

Specifically, those who condemned Republican tax cuts have money.

  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren has a 2018 net worth of $8.75 million.
  • Sen. Jeff Merkley had a net worth of $3.6 million in 2015.
  • Sen. Kamala Harris has a minimum of $2.1 million in assets.

Elected Progressives depend on America’s richest families for political support including:

  • Jon and Patricia Stryker gave approximately $16 million to liberal political groups and liberal candidates in recent years.
  • Ann Cox Chambers, of Georgia’s Cox Enterprises, donated $2.2 million to both the Obama campaign and other liberal causes in 2012.

However, being tethered to the 1 percent hasn’t fared well for the left because it doesn’t match their anti-rich message.

Lawrence Norden, deputy director of the Democracy Program at the Brennen Center, said liberals were vulnerable to then-candidate Donald Trump’s “drain the swamp” message. He said they exploited the system they claimed to be against.

The left also picks and supports those in the 1 percent to serve in government. Obama picked Penny Pritkzer of the family owning the Hyatt hotel chain as his Commerce Secretary in 2013. Democrat Mark Dayton, an heir to a fortune built by the Target store chain, is Minnesota’s governor.

Liberals who speak in the public sphere against the rich have money in the bank. This includes:

  • Hillary Clinton with a net worth of $45 million.
  • Former President Barack Obama has a net worth of $40 million.
  • Businessman Warren Buffet has $90.9 billion in net worth.

Republicans in the 1% tend to invest in businesses, which creates jobs for average Americans. This is particularly true over the past two years since President Donald Trump cut regulations and implemented tax cuts. Forbes states 3.5 million jobs have been created under Trump.

Knowing the facts, it would seem Americans would realize that Democrats are more intent on holding onto their wealth instead of creating wealth for the rest of America.
