It was a banner news day for Democrats when it was discovered that six White House advisers, including those closest to President Donald Trump, used private email addresses to conduct government business.

Those using private email addresses include the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who sent more than 100 emails and adviser Steve Bannon. The First Daughter, Ivanka Trump, also had a private email address she used to conduct government business. She used her personal email as an unpaid adviser during the first six months of the Trump administration, according to news reports.

The Trump White House faced enormous criticism from Democrats, who put the email controversy on par with Hillary Clinton’s email and server scandal.

Senior Democrat serving on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, was one of the first to speak out on the issue. He instructed the White House to preserve all Kushner’s emails in order for his committee to review them.

Cummings asked the emails be preserved and sent to the committee before making copies or releasing the public.

“I first request that you preserve all official records and copies of records in your custody or control and that you provide the information requested below,” Cummings siad.

Former Clinton spokesman Jesse Ferguson, said Trump should hold his staff and family to the same standard he had for the former Secretary of State. He indicated the Trump administration should be held to a higher standard because they “knew better” and “thought the rules didn’t apply to them” while she “made a mistake.”

Clinton also called out the Trump administration on the controversy, saying in one interview it was “just the height of hypocrisy.”

The two email issues were different in one way the media neglected to point out. The Trump staffers used private email addresses, but the former secretary also used a private email server not on the government grid. While all White House emails under Trump went through the secured government email server, even though some were written from private email accounts, Clinton’s emails were transmitted on an unsecured email server. That allowed several countries, including Russia, to hack her emails. Many of those classified emails then made their way for public viewing.

White House lawyer Ty Cobb said staffers have been educated on proper email use and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said were instructed after the news of private emails came out that they should use only government domain email addresses for work.

These aren’t the only tech scandals to compare reactions. State Sen. Steve Montenegro lost a special congressional race in Arizona after a texting scandal involving a topless woman’s photo went public.

His opponent, , made much of the scandal and won. Yet, those on the left were mum when their own such as former Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner, and then husband to Clinton aide Huma Abedin, was caught sending a compromising photo to a juvenile.

They also haven’t condemned repeated texts between FBI lawyer Lisa Page and her lover, FBI agent Peter Strzok, that plot the take down of Trump and discuss how to leak information to the press. Many said the texts have a different interpretation from the literal references.

Cummings, along with Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, said the texts were taken out of context. They said the texts were discussing how to change Department of Justice regulations to stop leaks, not how to create leaks.

Republicans disagree, saying the meaning is clear in the texts.

The evidence is there. Democrats will brush away any scandal associated with members of their own party while exaggerating any hint of scandal produced by Republicans. It is the ultimate of hyprocrisy.
